The hours and days following your aesthetic treatment are just as important as the treatment itself. Whether you’ve had dermal fillers, Botox®, CO2 laser resurfacing, or another skin rejuvenation procedure, proper aftercare ensures you heal smoothly, protect your investment, and get the most beautiful, long-lasting results possible.
At VedaNu Wellness in San Diego, we give every patient detailed post-treatment instructions, but here’s a guide to help you understand what matters most after your aesthetic procedure.
1. Protect the Treated Area
Immediately after treatment, your skin or injection site is more sensitive than usual. This is normal — it’s part of your body’s healing response. Protecting the area means:
Avoid touching or rubbing the treated area for at least 24 hours (especially important after fillers, Botox®, or Dysport®).
Skip makeup for the rest of the day unless otherwise advised.
Keep the area clean and follow any skincare instructions given by your provider.
2. Manage Swelling and Redness
Mild swelling, redness, or tenderness is common after many aesthetic treatments. Here’s how to reduce discomfort:
Use a cool compress for short intervals during the first 24 hours (especially after injections).
Sleep slightly elevated to help fluid drain and reduce swelling.
Avoid hot showers, saunas, and intense exercise for the first 24–48 hours.
3. Follow Skincare Guidelines
If you’ve had a resurfacing treatment like CO2 laser, your skin will go through a healing process that requires extra care:
Use only the gentle, non-active products recommended by your provider until your skin barrier is fully healed.
Avoid retinol, exfoliating acids, and scrubs until cleared.
Keep skin hydrated and protected with a medical-grade moisturizer and daily SPF.
4. Stay Out of Direct Sunlight
Sun exposure can cause pigmentation, delay healing, and compromise results — especially after treatments that resurface or stimulate the skin.
Wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every day.
Use a wide-brim hat and seek shade when outdoors.
Avoid tanning beds entirely, as they accelerate skin aging and damage.
5. Avoid Alcohol & Strenuous Exercise (Temporarily)
Alcohol and intense workouts can increase blood flow, which may worsen swelling or bruising after injections. For most injectable treatments:
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours post-treatment.
Skip strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours to reduce risk of complications.
6. Be Patient with Results
Some treatments, like Sculptra® or CO2 laser resurfacing, take time for full results to appear as collagen rebuilds beneath the skin. Even with immediate-result treatments like fillers or Botox®, it can take several days to two weeks for final results to fully settle.
Pro Tip: Take before-and-after photos to track your progress — you’ll be amazed at the transformation over time.
7. Stick to Follow-Up Appointments
Many treatments require more than one session or periodic touch-ups for the best outcome. Your follow-up appointments allow us to:
Assess your healing
Make any necessary adjustments
Plan future treatments to maintain results
8. Support Your Skin from the Inside
Good skincare is more than what you put on your skin — it’s also about what you put in your body:
Stay hydrated
Eat a nutrient-rich diet with antioxidants, omega-3s, and lean proteins
Get enough sleep to allow your skin to repair overnight
