Recovering from extra large breast augmentation involves more care and patience than standard breast surgery. Because of the increased implant volume—especially when placed under the muscle—patients can expect more tightness, swelling, and temporary discomfort during the first few days. It’s important to rest, stay hydrated, and follow all postoperative instructions closely to ensure proper healing.
You’ll wake from surgery in a supportive surgical bra, which must be worn continuously for at least 4 weeks. Your incisions will be covered with steri-strips or surgical tape, which typically remain in place for 4 to 6 weeks. These should stay clean and dry until your surgeon advises otherwise. Showering may be restricted during this time until you receive clearance from your provider.
Initially, the implants may sit slightly higher on the chest and appear more swollen. This is completely normal. Over the following weeks, your body will begin to adjust, and the implants will gradually settle into a more natural, aesthetically pleasing position.
Pain medication will be prescribed to help manage any discomfort, and your care team will schedule follow-up visits to monitor your progress. Most patients begin to feel more like themselves within a week, though full healing and final results can take several months.
